The ECA strongly supports the Bruce Trail Conservancy’s landmark decision to remove the former Talisman Mountain Resort buildings and permanently protect these lands in the Beaver Valley. This bold step secures 134 acres along the Niagara Escarpment from future development and represents a powerful commitment to restoring ecological integrity in one of Ontario’s most unique natural landscapes.
As a proud ally in conservation with the Bruce Trail Conservancy, the ECA values the strong collaboration that makes ambitious conservation outcomes like this possible and is honoured to support efforts that protect and restore the Escarpment landscape. This is an enormous win for conservation! Transforming a long-contested and degraded site into the Talisman Forest Nature Preserve is a meaningful example of what large-scale conservation and restoration can achieve. Plans to reforest the slope, enhance habitat for species at risk, and explore opportunities such as stream daylighting reflect the kind of forward-thinking stewardship needed to address biodiversity loss and climate change.
ECA applauds the leadership of the Bruce Trail Conservancy, as well as the dedication of community members and partners who have long advocated for the protection of these lands. This project demonstrates the lasting impact of collective action and reinforces the importance of continued investment in conservation across the Escarpment landscape.
We encourage our community to learn more about this initiative and support efforts to ensure these lands are restored and protected for generations to come.
