The Niagara Escarpment plays a critical role in sustaining a healthy, balanced ecosystem in South Georgian Bay— for people and for nature. These lands are vital. Helping others understand just how essential the escarpment is to the well-being of our region and beyond is at the heart of our work. Which is why we launched the ECA Learning Series as part of our educational programming this year.

Heading into the 3rd quarter of 2025, we are thrilled at the many successes we’ve had already and those that are still to come.

At a recent CARA meeting, our board director David Scoon had the opportunity to speak about the critical role the Niagara Escarpment plays in sustaining a healthy, balanced ecosystem — for people and for nature.
“As context, it is worth noting that the Niagara Escarpment is recognized by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve which has the oldest forest ecosystem and trees in eastern North America. It is home to more than 300 bird species, 55 mammals, 36 reptiles, 90 fish and 100 varieties of special interest flora.”
