Letters to Candidates
Template Candidate Letter #1
Dear candidate,
I am writing to you today regarding the most important issue for me in this election – environmental protections for the Escarpment in the South Georgian Bay region.
I’m a supporter of the Escarpment Corridor Alliance (ECA), a rapidly growing group of environmentally focused residents, businesses, and aligned organizations. In the few short months since their founding, they have already connected with thousands of people in our region, have a petition calling for protection of the Escarpment and creation of a network of wildlife corridors, and partnered with many like-minded associations and experts in our riding.
I believe in the ECA because they prioritize stopping inappropriate development in our riding, strengthening environmental protections on the Escarpment lands, and creating natural corridors for both wildlife and responsible recreation.
In short, the ECA’s mission, which I strongly endorse, is to:
- Establish a permanently protected wildlife area in the region that connects key parks, forests, and trails to create corridors with rich, biodiverse forests thriving with flora and fauna; and
- Oppose unnecessary development projects that threaten to create new cities in old forests – such as the 1,600 new homes and 300-unit hotel proposed at Castle Glen.
To me this is needed and essential for our riding. Is this a mission that you and your party agree with?
I hope you agree with the ECA’s mission and are willing to publicly go on the record as such. Do you plan to make your support public? This would help voters like myself know what we can expect should you be elected and your party form government.
If you do not agree with the ECA’s position, I would like to hear the reasons why. It would help me gain a better understanding of your position as a candidate and your party’s stance on environmental issues.
I look forward to your response so that I may share it with my friends and neighbours who are asking the same questions – for them too, the environment is the most important factor in the upcoming election.
Sincerely,
Template Candidate Letter #2
Dear candidate,
I am reaching out to you about the mission of the Escarpment Corridor Alliance (ECA), which closely aligns with my vision for our area. I highly value our fragile environment and wish to protect it for future generations; I implore you and your party to save the Escarpment lands – which is at risk – from inappropriate development like that at Castle Glen Forest. This will be a major factor in my vote in June.
The ECA’s mission, which I strongly believe in, is to:
- Establish a permanently protected wildlife area in the region that connects key parks, forests, and trails to create corridors with rich, biodiverse forests thriving with flora and fauna; and
- Oppose unnecessary development projects that threaten to create new cities in old forests – such as the 1,600 new homes and 300-unit hotel proposed at Castle Glen.
I hope this mission statement aligns well with your beliefs and the party platform. I would be interested in hearing more about what you promise to do to protect the environment in our region. Do you agree with the ECA’s mission and what tangible promises can you make to the voters of this riding?
If you agree with the ECA’s mission – as I believe you should – I hope you will make your support public as it will help voters better understand your priorities and what you will do for the riding. Will you commit to publicly supporting them?
If you do not support the ECA’s mission or are unwilling to publicly support this vision for our riding, I would be interested to know why. As mentioned, this is a top issue for me – and studies show it is for voters across the province. If you are not supportive, or not publicly so, why not?
Environmental issues will be top of mind when I head to the polls in June, and I know it will be the same for many friends and neighbours in my community. I am calling on you and your party to make a firm commitment to voters in our riding. I look forward to hearing back from you with your responses to my questions as it will greatly affect who I support in this election.
Sincerely,
