Join us as we raise awareness about the critical challenges facing our beloved Southern Georgian Bay Escarpment. It’s an opportunity to learn, engage, and inspire positive change for this stunning region. The Escarpment Corridor Alliance presents an awe-inspiring matinee film screening of Watermark. Co-directed by Edward Burtynsky, this visually stunning documentary delves into our profound connection with water and its consequences. Witness captivating stories from around the world, immerse yourself in breathtaking footage, and gain a deeper appreciation for water’s essential role in our lives. In Watermark, the viewer is immersed in a world defined by a magnificent force of nature that we all too often take for granted-until it’s gone.
Following the screening, join us for co-director’s comments with Edward Burtynsky himself. This unique opportunity allows you to hear firsthand from the co-director and gain invaluable knowledge about the film and his concerns about water issues in our own backyard.

Co-directed by Edward Burtynsky, this thought-provoking documentary explores humanity’s profound impact on the Earth. Traverse the globe through stunning visuals, from concrete seawalls in China to surreal landscapes in Russia.
Join us for an unforgettable cinematic experience, followed by an informal reception where you can engage in meaningful discussions and reflections inspired by the film. ECA Summit Evening – Keynote, Panel & Reception

The Escarpment Corridor Alliance presents the ECA Summit Evening, an extraordinary event filled with inspiration, collaboration, and excitement. Join us as we welcome Canadian photographer, filmmaker, and environmentalist Edward Burtynsky, who will deliver a captivating Keynote presentation. Burtynsky, a long-time member of the Southern Georgian Bay community, will take us on a global journey of his work and environmental beliefs. Ultimately, he will remind us of what a special place we live in and our collective responsibility to take good care of it.
Following the Keynote address, Burtynsky will be joined by three exceptional panelists for a professionally moderated discussion exploring the key issues and threats that impact the escarpment and the world beyond. We will delve into crucial topics such as land conservation, the biodiversity crisis, and how to create a sustainable conservation economy. You will gain insights into the First Nations perspective and explore models, solutions, and an inspiring path forward. We will finish the evening with a Summit Reception where you can share your views, engage in discussion and enjoy some food and drink with Edward Burtynsky, ECA Directors and other event participants.
In addition, the evening will also feature an auction – live and on-line, providing an exclusive opportunity to acquire unique items and experiences while supporting the conservation efforts of the Escarpment Corridor Alliance.

Edward Burtynsky
Edward Burtynsky is a globally renowned contemporary photographer and documentary filmmaker. His captivating works depict the impact of industrialization on nature and human existence worldwide. As an Officer of the Order of Canada, he is recognized for his environmental leadership. Edward is a long-time member of the Southern Georgian Bay community and a strong advocate for sustainability. Through his art, he inspires reflection and dialogue on our environmental challenges, urging us to strive for a harmonious relationship between human progress and the natural world.
Jack Contin
Jack Contin, the Deputy Mayor of Midland, is a highly experienced professional with a diverse background. He has held roles as a town councilor and worked for organizations such as Parks Canada, Environment Canada, and the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs. Actively engaged in community initiatives, Jack was a founding member of the Georgian Bay UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and is involved in obtaining a UNESCO Geopark designation for Georgian Bay. He has made significant contributions to Indigenous tourism as the former President of the Aboriginal Tourism Association for Southern Ontario.
Mike Robbins
Mike Robbins is a highly respected tourism consultant based in Collingwood, Ontario. He brings over 37 years of domestic and international expertise, focusing on responsible tourism that aligns economic, social, and environmental factors. Formerly the Chairman of CREST (Center for Responsible Travel) in Washington DC, Mike has played a significant role in promoting responsible travel practices. He is also a dedicated philanthropist, supporting Indigenous ecotourism and environmental conservation initiatives across Canada. As the Director of the Escarpment Corridor Alliance, Mike continues to drive positive change and shape the industry with his strategic insights and commitment to sustainable development.
Jessica Kaknevicius
Jessica Kaknevicius is a dedicated professional with a passion for environmental conservation and sustainability. As an accomplished expert in her field, she has made significant contributions to the areas of forest restoration, education, and community engagement. Currently serving as the CEO of Forests Ontario, Jessica is a national leader in inspiring individuals to develop a meaningful connection with forests.
